CANON CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Ky Kiske
Canon: Guilty Gear
Backstory: Backstory
Personality: Ky Kiske is a very intelligent, charismatic, and emotionally conflicted man.
To him the most important thing for a person to be is Just in actions and words, he tries very hard to do as he say and say as he do, but he acknowledges and is frustrated that sometimes he can’t do that. This also means that he detests hypocrites well above the usual laundry list of people with despicable character traits such as liars, thieves, bullies, and creeps. He ultimately wants to do what’s right, no matter the cost to himself.
This sense of justice also currently drives his main conflict with others. Ky unfortunately has a rather black/white view of the world. It’s a measure of how pious he is, and frankly how naïve he is that he still has a simple view of morality at his age. However, this aspect will improve with time and exposure to all kinds of people. Ky however doesn’t see himself as perfect unlike most people with this mindset. In fact, he is pretty harsh on himself.
Even if his sense of Justice will be shaken, there are some fundamentals that he still has unshakable faith in: His devotion to his religion, the belief that everyone should be equal in the eyes of the law, and one should help as many people as they can. He’s a devout Catholic, pious without being self-righteous. Ky simply tries his best to live according to his faith and will not force his beliefs on others.
He wears his heart on his sleeve and finds it immensely difficult to conceal his opinions on people and actions, everyone he likes knows it and those he despise can see it in a single glance at his face – however, even when he shows displeasure and contempt for a person, he still has a measure of politeness in his speech even when he’s calling them a bastard.
Ky, when he’s not pondering on the big, meaningful questions is quite friendly for the most part (Unless a bad impression was made). He’s extremely helpful, willing to assist anyone who asks for aid, and has a strong chivalric streak – including holding back against female opponents. Once a bad impression is made, Ky will remain suspicious of that person until they prove themselves. Though friendly as he is, he doesn’t make friends easily, as he’s been orphaned at a young age and spent most of his life in a military setting, he gotten very little experience in social interactions and comes off as distant and tends to miss obvious cues. Most notably, he is quite oblivious to subtle attempts of people hitting on him, though if more overt advances are made, he starts stuttering and lose his train of thought.
He’s very polite, and inquisitive, willing to engage in quite a variety of topics ranging from the different styles of teacups to more serious topics such as religion and politics, and has a slight philosophical bent. In such conversations, Ky will hold fast to his opinions and remain calm except under very specific circumstances (read: Attack his mentor, question his integrity, or espousing completely vile ideas). When he does lose his cool, he reveals a hot-blooded, passionate side that drives him.
The young man has the makings of a good leader – putting others before himself, and is quite capable of staying calm under most circumstances, able to make snap decisions under pressure. He only really loses his temper when it comes with dealing with a sworn enemy, his beliefs being attacked, and if he is witnessing acts of sheer cruelty - ESPECIALLY if he is seeing other people doing nothing about it.
And due to that magic is a limitless, clean energy in his world, and “Black tech” has wreak havoc upon the world – Ky is very distrustful of high technology and would avoid using them.
AU INFORMATION
AU Character Name: Kyle “Ky” Kiske
AU Backstory: Kyle was born in and grew up in New Orleans – his father was a member of the New Orleans Police Department, but his family was forced to relocate after their home was destroyed in a natural disaster, with his father managing to transfer to the LAPD, and his mother decided this was a good time to transfer her son to a private catholic school, getting a job to help pay the fees. While at first he was bullied for the Southern accent he never quite lost, and his initially shabby appearance because he only had enough clothes to fill a suitcase, he soon won over a lot of people due to his kind demeanor and seemingly inability not to help others, while he still gets teased for being a teacher’s pet, he graduated high school as a fairly popular kid with a perfect GPA. He soon enrolled in the police academy, but took his mother’s advice to also enroll in an online degree course, getting an Associate’s Degree in Criminology because he was certain law enforcement was the career he wanted – with the eventual goal of becoming a detective.
He was hired not long after long after he completed the academy training, and was assigned to a precinct across town from his father, and found himself in the LAPD’s vice division, much to his great mortification, and the amusement of his co-workers when they discover how ‘shy’ the rookie was.
During the first couple of years, his father retired, and Ky discovered that drug and sex-related crimes were far more complicated than he thought – that many prostitutes and drug-users were as much victims as they are offenders. Worst yet, as he became accepted by his coworkers, some of them started to drop their guard and reveal their nastier sides, a couple of them dropping racial slurs or made other derogatory statements about the people they arrested, others were using unethical but not illegal tricks to force confessions, one even tried to take him under her wings to euphemistically teach him how to passively accept bribes in a way to avoid getting busted by Internal Affairs.
Kyle asked his father for advice, and was warned point blank that if he wanted to ever make detective, he is better off keeping his mouth shut, and just avoid doing the bad things, angering Ky and instantly straining their relationship in that phone call. He first tries to lead by example, hoping to shame the others with good conduct, that of course didn’t work, and then he had started to write an anonymous report to Internal affairs, but soon realized with how ridden Gossip is at work, there is no way he can submit it without being known he wrote it – and every cop knew the story of what ‘happened to that guy in the NYPD’. Kyle was at a crisis point, until the Phantom Thieves started to act, and while he’s initially skeptical of their methods, he found they were going after people the police could not touch, and decided, though reluctantly, to try to make contact with them, to find justice when the law failed his expectations.
AU Personality Deviation: Because he’s not growing up in a post-apocalyptic war as a child soldier, Ky is much better socialized, better able to make friends with other people and he is nowhere near as tech-phobic as his canon counterpart. On that note, he doesn’t have the same leadership experience as his canon self, and is more likely to defer to others, and slower to take on the role when the situation calls for it.
And while he’s more aware that the world is gray, he’s less confident in his ideas of justice, constantly questioning if he is really doing the right thing in the long run, especially once he realizes how young most of the Thieves are. He overcompensates for this on the job by being extremely by the book while in uniform.

0: The Fool asks - What is the most life-changing event you have experienced? “There was that hurricane in New Orleans, we lost our homes and everything we didn’t manage to get packed up in the car, dad ended up relocating us in LA. I mean, they’re two completely different sort of cities, who knows how I’d been if I was still in the Big Easy.”
II: The Priestess asks - What do you consider to be an undeniable truth? “Everyone deserves a fair shake, no exceptions.”
III: The Empress asks - What are your hopes for the future? “To make Detective… it’s kind of selfish, but I’ve been wanting to be one since I was six.”
VI: The Lovers ask - Where do you see your life going? Are you satisfied with this path? “I thought I’d be satisfied, but with things I’ve seen, I’m not sure what I should be doing now.”
VIII: The Justice asks - What does your justice entail? “Fairness. Protecting the innocent, Reform those who can be, and punish those who can’t. Vengeance may sometimes lead to justice by chance, but anger and hate has no place in Justice.”
IX: The Hermit asks - What do you do when given the grace of solitude? “I pray, I also read – preferably with a warm cup of tea. Both let me think without my thoughts straying too much.”
X: The Fortune asks - Do you believe in Destiny? Why, or why not? “The Lord may have a plan, but he gave humans free will, so I guess the answer is: I only believe in a broad strokes of destiny for the world, but humans have no predetermined fate because that’s our gift of free will.”
XI: The Strength asks - How do you respond in the face of danger? “I trust my training, and prioritize getting civilians out of harm’s way before I act.”
XIII: The Death asks - As you enter a new stage in your life, what do you wish to leave behind? “My uncertainty. Being too confident is bad, but I do not like feeling like I am unable to trust my own judgment.”
XVI: The Tower asks - What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you? “I had a fight with my father… we used to be really close, but I discovered something about how he views things that I had a hard time accepting. We hadn’t spoken to each other since then.”
XVIII: The Moon asks - What do you most fear in this world and why? “What if… what if everything I was doing was for nothing, what if I make things worse?”
XIX: The Sun asks - What in this world makes you happy and why? “Smiling faces. I’m serious! Seeing other people happy, especially if it’s because of something I did, it’s one of the best feelings in the world, that no matter how bad things get, seeing there’s still something bright and good…”
XX: The Judgement asks - What is the hardest thing in your life you have had to accept and why? “That people who should be the helpers and savers are just as fallible as anyone else. I used to think everyone who went into Law Enforcement or Medicine wants to help others, but it’s – more complicated I discovered.”
