CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Ky Kiske
CANON: Guilty Gear
HISTORY: http://guilty-gear.wikia.com/wiki/Ky_Kiske#Background

STRENGTHS:
Idealistic: Even when he’s hit by the worst of humanity, getting blackmailed, betrayed, and all that, he still has Hope. This word is so important it’s carved into his uniform’s belt, he believes eventually the innate goodness of people (and gears) will cover come conflict, and no matter how dark it gets, there’s always a light.

Noble: Ky tries to keep a code of honor, even in trying times. The reason it turns out that he keeps losing to Sol is because he wants to treat him like any other man and subconsciously holds back, even it meant getting his ass handed to him, repeatedly. When he realized the ‘enemy commander’ he was set to find post-crusades was a young girl who didn’t want to hurt anyone, he went against his long-set distrust of gears to help hide her from those that would want to kill her.

Charismatic: Despite being made to lead an army at the tender age of 14, he still manages to command the respect of his much older peers partly due to his sharp mind, but mostly due to his ability to empathize with others and inspire them to keep fighting even against all odds.

FLAWS:
Stubbornness: Once he decides on a course, he won’t give up. He also tends to hold grudges and is slow to forgive those he feels has wrong him or those under his charge – taking years to forgive Sol for ‘stealing’ the Fireseal and even with their much friendlier relationship he still harps on the man when he steps out of line. In canon, he has made an enemy out of the post war bureau because he refused to stop digging into their activities despite that it has costed him dearly, and allow them an opening to blackmail him.

Withdrawn: While he is charismatic, and can be quite charming, he keeps things to himself instead of letting others know what’s troubling him, under a belief that he doesn’t need to burden others with his problems. Unfortunately, this means he doesn’t get the help he needs, or that what he thinks is just his problem turned out to be other people’s problems as well and ends up causing a rift in relationships.

Easily Manipulated/Naivety: Due to his attempts at being properly knightly, his honor code can be used against him, and he's especially weak towards people, especially women requesting help, and will hold back against women in a fight - something he has gotten mocked for. And if put in a position where the choice is between achieving his goals or protecting his loved ones, he will pick the latter every time, even if said love ones are more than capable of defending themselves. Also he tends to think the best of people, so he always assume people are acting in good intentions unless they had proven they couldn't be trusted.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Ky Alard de Kiske

AGE: 730-something roughly – around 700 of it spent asleep

POSITION: Latin and Medieval Languages, And Elemental combat magic

AU BACKSTORY: The second son of a French Comte, Kai (or ‘Ky’ due to how he spelled his own name in documents) was an adventurous romantic at heart and not wishing to go into conflict with his siblings over inheritance, he became a knight, establishing himself as possessing a tactical mind and a reputation for fair-handedness in disputes. Like many young men of the late 13th century, he got caught up in the fervor of the holy land, being among the last of the knights to travel to Jerusalem, where he joined with the Knights Templar before the order was driven out for good.

While he fervently denies the nature of the Templar’s secret rituals as being blasphemous, the Noble Knights started to practice a form of esoteric magic as part of trying to further understand the ways of God with Ky manifesting what they at the time deemed a form of Divine Lightning.

However, with the Crusades no longer being a factor, Kings became nervous of the marital prowess the Knights possessed that answers to no man, and Philip IV of France felt the pinch of the Templar’s bankers, and soon pressured his cousin the Pope to declare the order heretics. Sensing that their end was near, the Grand Master ordered Ky to guard a precious secret they had obtained from the Holy Land, sensing that the temporal lords of Europe would gravely misuse this secret if it were to fall into their hands, trusting the knight’s proven cunning and sense of righteous to complete the task – Ky fled from France and headed west, correctly assuming they’ll first search eastwards for him.

As it became clearer and clearer that his order was doomed and that the men were turning every stone in their confiscated citadels, Ky knew it was only a matter of time before he was found, and took a desperate measure: He committed it all to his memory, destroying the scroll before placing himself into a magical sleep until it was time for that secret to be used. The Papal guards found him in Timbor, Portugal, but nothing they did could rouse the knight, and he seemed impervious to harm in his slumbering state.

With little idea of what to do, they carried him to the Vatican, where the mystics within various monastic orders studied him, realizing he used the same kind of spell that was supposedly cast on the legendary Frederick Barbarossa – that he would only awaken ‘if the ravens fled and the eagles no longer circle the mountains’. After Clement V’s death (and his body and the church it laid in being destroyed by a freak thunderstorm), the matter of the Knight became a lower priority, and then soon he was mostly forgotten.

Mostly – half-true whispers of his existence escaped the Vatican’s vaults, and became entangled in the greater part of the Templar Knight Legend that sprung up in the following centuries, though only the most ardent believers of the mystic actually believed it’s anything more than a Myth:

“The Knight of Timbor, or the Sleeping Templar was a trusted confidant of the Last Grandmaster – once the men realized they were being exterminated, the knight attempted to flee to the new world, but fell into a dreamless sleep before he could cross the ocean, taking his solemn duty with him. Sources say he holds the key to the treasures the bankers had kept from Philip IV’s hands; others claim he knows where the head of John the Baptist lay buried, or the Ark of the Covenant, or perhaps even the Holy Grail itself. It is said he will only awaken when the time is right.”

His secret is none of those things, in researching the divine and the secret of creation and diving from the scrolls of Solomon they had found in Acre, many of the knights including Ky himself was enhanced to beyond human level, giving them sharper senses, the strength of the nephilim, and the ability to regenerate even from fatal wounds – and slower aging as a side effect with none of the usual draw backs most supernatural creatures suffer as a tradeoff for such abilities, though given the haste Ky was quickly converted he has yet to fully master his abilities and still experiences great pain in using it.

It was only recently that his casket was rediscovered and brought to the Academy via the trading of generous favors – as someone noted the seemingly impossible conditions for his wakening wasn’t a literal event that needs to happen, but part of an incantation.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: Ky personality-wise is less at ease with his surroundings, having 711 years of culture shock to adjust to, even with the ‘helpful’ aid of his semi-clairvoyant dreams while he’s asleep. He’s more easily startled and openly curious about the strange and unknown, wanting to quickly learn the world he lives in.

Because of this curiosity and not having been through a technology-based apocalypse, he doesn’t have his canon phobia of technology, but given his electrical magic, he’s not good with them.

And similarly on that note, given the perceive betrayal of the Pope’s actions towards the Knights Templar, Ky has a low-key crisis of faith, questioning his religion more though he keeps this mainly to himself and a trusted few.

RACE: Altered Human
SECRET SOCIETY: N/A (formerly Knights Templar)

POWERS: Ky and channel and cast lightning magic, and this is the ability he is most open about, He shows a great deal of precision and control – able to decide how light or powerful he attacks, at the most he is capable of completely shutting down the power in all of Paris.

His other ability is his alteration (mirroring his partial Gear-status in Xrd and Revelator) – where he gained great physical enhancements – sharper senses, being strong enough to shove a sword through a marble column and holding a several ton pillar over his head, and extreme regenerative abilities (able to survive getting shot in the back six times). His regenerative ability is always on – a sign of his regenerative powers is that his hair grows faster than normal, gaining some inches a month. But his enhanced abilities can only be active under times of stress or danger, and when it does, his eyes glow red with ‘fire of creation’.

He can only draw on that wellspring of strength for a few minutes, and comes out of it in excoriating pain even if he wasn’t injured.

HOUSING: No preference

INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT
1. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND. (Still looking owl-eyed) Uh…! Well I’ve had tutors since I was quite young, and when I entered the Knights Templar, we were taught not only how to fight more efficiently, but also how to speak several languages and accounting.

2. TELL US ABOUT YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE. I’ve trained younger knights of the order how to use – magic. Older ones too, they say I have a way of making it easy to understand…?

3. WHAT UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES DO YOU THINK YOU BRING TO THE ACADEMY? …Would living in the previous times count? I actually used the languages I’m teaching in day to day life before now, and may help them to understand context they may not get simply from books.

4. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR A SCHOOL TO PROVIDE TO ITS STUDENTS Safety, without that they can’t focus on their education.

6. HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO PUSH THEMSELVES AND TAKE THEIR SCHOOLWORK SERIOUSLY? Praise when they do well, and suggestions of how they can do better. I suppose also to show them that it does have its uses?

7. HOW DO YOU MANAGE STUDENTS WHO ARE DEFIANT OR ACTING OUT? Well… uh, it’s not something I would use on children as knights who step out of line are required to cloister themselves and go on a fast to repent. So… I’ll figure out something more appropriate.

8. HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE AND MENTOR STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING OR DEPRESSED? Find out why they’re struggling first, if you don’t know what is wrong, you can’t really help them. You may not be able to resolve the issue, but if you can be a pillar of support for them, they are more likely to succeed.

9. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON TO TEACH EVERY STUDENT WHO WALKS THROUGH OUR DOORS? To keep trying, nothing can be perfect, but if you can give it everything you have, that is still something worthwhile.

13. HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR CURRENT BOSS OR SUPERVISOR WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE? I think… it’s good considering my circumstances?

15. WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST TEACHING WEAKNESSES? I am not up to date on how things work, but I’m trying!

16. ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF ACADEMY FACULTY IS PROTECTING STUDENTS FROM THAT WHICH MIGHT DO THEM HARM. TELL US HOW EQUIPPED YOU ARE TO DO THIS. I am a trained swordsman, and skilled with magic. And as a knight, I swore to protect the weak even at cost to my life.

17. WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE FOR YOUR STUDENTS? My Life.
